The Badger Fly Fishers’ May meeting date has been changed to Sunday, May 5th and the location has been changed to Donald County Park at the Pop’s Knoll shelter which is just northwest of Mount Vernon on Highway 92. There will be a BBQ picnic lunch with food provided by the club and a fly casting clinic led by Brian Ramsey who is a tournament fly caster and instructor. The Donald County Park location will also provide the opportunity for people to do some fishing on the nearby Dane County trout streams before or after the picnic and fly casting clinic. Brian Ramsey has worked in the fly fishing industry for 34 years and got his start while attending the University of Montana located in Missoula where he earned a Journalism degree. Attending college in Montana allowed Brian endless trout fishing opportunities and it is where he also got his first fly shop job working at the historic Dan Bailey’s fly shop in Livingston, MT. Brian has worked at or guided through numerous fly shops in Montana and Idaho. Along the way Brian got involved in tournament fly casting and has placed in the top three at Nationals several times over a few decades at the historic Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club ponds in San Francisco, CA. Over his career Brian has also worked at Powell Rods, R.L. Winston Rod Company and the iconic Tom Morgan Rodsmiths. Brian has taught fly casting to all age groups throughout North America and loves to share what he has learned about fishing and fly casting. Brian’s style of teaching is casual, fun and approachable with the end goal to give you a glimpse of a beautiful sport and a remarkable gateway into the natural world. Brian currently lives in La Crosse, WI and is a popular guide for trout in the Driftless Area. Here is a link to Brian’s website which includes additional information about his background and guided trips. The event on Sunday, May 5th at Donald County Park runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a BBQ lunch served at 12:00 noon. Visitors and guests are always welcome. In order to get an estimate of the amount of food needed, please RSVP to badgerflyfishers@gmail.com by the end of the day on Friday, May 3rd indicating the number of BBQ lunch attendees.
